October Care Package

I am posting this care package I sent my hubby on his deployment last year.

My October care package was of course Halloween themed. My hubby and I have not been able to share a Halloween yet and I absolutely love dressing up so I decided to include a few photos of my past costumes.

I am an avid scrapbooker so I used some Halloween themed paper. I included some of my husband Victors favorite snacks and candy.

I usually add "pun-ny" notes on some snacks. Such as...

Chili Lemon Peanuts - For My Hot Stuff!
Peanuts - I'd Go Nuts Without You!
Apple Sauce - Your the Apple of my Eye.
Banana Chips - You make me go bananas!
USB Fan - I am your #1 Fan!
Gun - Stuck on You!
Lollipops- Deployment Sucks!
Then we added the typical anonymous face glasses as his "costume".

Then on the upper blank portion I wrote him a lengthy letter that continued to the bottom portion of the box. This was what I sent, what ideas did you come up with?
I would love to see your finished product… post here or on www.facebook.com/crownandcapeblog where you can also see all my projects posted.

Halloween Door Inspiration on a Budget

Halloween is coming quick, and for me there is nothing more fun than getting creative for the holidays. The challenge is making cute projects on a budget. This Halloween I was inspired to make my new door decor when I came across "The One Spot" at target. You know that section at the entrance of the store that has miscellaneous items for $1-$3. Here are a few things they had at my Target.

I do know that other stores like Walmart, Walgreens and CVS all have similar sections with cute stuff too.  I saw these jars and saw so many possibilities and not just for Halloween but any holiday.

Alright, so for this project I just used stuff from Target.

Supplies:
Various Black and White Ribbon : $1
Skull Felt Garland: $1
Boo Pillow: $3

Glue Gun
Sewing Machine

As you can see the pillow does not have a border, or flat edges. I needed to have a defined edge to be able to glue my ribbon onto the sides.

So, I took my sewing machine and sewed a line down each side of my pillow so I could have a border.  This will allow for the ribbon to face straight out off the sides.

I then cut my ribbon to about 4" pieces. You can make as many as you wish to use. I also cut a thicker black ribbon to the length of the side edges of my pillow.

I then twisted it into the shape of a ribbon for a cause and glued all of them this way.

I placed them in the pattern I wanted for the edge then glued the ribbon onto the thicker black ribbon (the bottom of the image above). If your thick base ribbon has a right/wrong side be sure to glue your 4" ribbons on the wrong side facing up.

Then I glued the thick black strip onto the edge that I created on the pillow with my sewing machine.

You can glue or in my case sew, the ribbon for hanging on each upper corner of your pillow. Thats it!

Hang it and use garland to accent your door.

You don't have to use a pillow. It can be replaced with anything you think might be cute to hang. When scouring your Halloween accent aisles try to think "out-of-the-box". In my case, I thought this pillow was cute to use, but stores have lots of wood signs you can be creative with. This is what I came up with on a budget  I challenge you to get creative and make your own.
